This convergence benefits both sides: the security team gets better visibility into how security events impact application performance, and the DevOps team gets real-time security insights directly within the performance monitoring tools they already use every day. This trend is moving RASP from a standalone security tool to a core component of a holistic "DevSecOps" observability strategy.

AI and Machine Learning for Smarter Threat Detection

Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) are becoming increasingly important trends in the RASP market, being used to enhance the accuracy and intelligence of the protection offered. While RASP's core strength is its contextual, deterministic detection of known vulnerability patterns, AI/ML can add another layer of intelligence, particularly for detecting novel or unusual attacks. Machine learning algorithms can be used to build a baseline model of an application's normal behavior—the typical SQL queries it makes, the files it accesses, the network connections it opens. The RASP agent can then use this model to detect significant deviations from the norm that might indicate a zero-day attack or a sophisticated business logic abuse attack that doesn't fit a known signature. For example, if an application suddenly tries to access a sensitive configuration file that it has never touched before, an AI-powered RASP could flag this as a highly suspicious anomaly and block the action.
