This includes a heavy reliance on third-party security auditing firms that specialize in reviewing smart contract code for potential vulnerabilities before it is deployed. A more advanced trend is the use of "formal verification," a mathematical technique that can be used to formally prove that a piece of code behaves exactly as intended under all possible conditions. While complex and expensive, formal verification offers the highest possible level of security assurance and is becoming a standard practice for high-value DeFi protocols and other mission-critical smart contract systems.
